Sheroes of History is 1!

Sheroes of history birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEROES OF HISTORY!

Wow, I can’t believe that a whole year has gone by since I started the Sheroes of History blog on International Women’s Day 2014. I had no idea then how it would unfold, but I am so utterly thrilled with how it has.

In the past 12 months this blog has featured over 70 inspiring Sheroes; amazing women from history including scientists, writers, musicians, revolutionaries, pirates, princesses, warriors, suffragettes and so much more!

A key feature of the blog is that it’s not all created by me; at least half of what you see on the blog has been submitted by awesome contributors from all corners of the globe. This year over 30 writers submitted pieces about the Sheroes who have inspired them. I am so thankful for this ever growing community which enables this blog to live and to continue. Sheroes of History wouldn’t be what it is today without them.

Through our collective efforts there has been a different historical heroine featured every single week (well, apart from Christmas day) for the past year. In January the blog hit the 10,000 views mark and is now nearing 12,000. It blows my mind, but the Sheroes of History blog has been viewed in over 90 countries around the world!

It is so encouraging, and so humbling that there has been such broad interest in this blog. I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported Sheroes in this first year, it means so much to me.

So what next? Well you can expect more of the same with excellent blog posts every week and as we move into our second year I’m looking for ways that the Sheroes of History idea can come to life outside of the blog too.

I’m beginning to host a range of events, which started last year when I held our first Sheroes of History event at Birmingham Library as part of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign. Coming up is our special birthday event (today) and an event soon for a local university women’s association. I hope the year ahead will hold many more opportunities like this to keep spreading the stories of our inspiring Sheroes.

In addition to this I’ve revisited my original desires for the blog, particularly that the content you find here is ultimately used to inspire children and give them a whole load of amazing female role models. I have started work on some children’s versions of the Sheroes profiles, which I hope to publish as an ebook within the next 12 months, and potentially as hard copy books too – so watch this space!

As soon as time allows I am also planning to develop a video series to accompany the blog, hopefully opening up the content to a new & wider audience. You can see the first videos on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel so you’ll be the first to know when new videos come out!

Thank you for coming this far with us, please hang around for the next part of our exciting journey together! If you’ve been waiting to get in touch and tell the world about the Shero that’s inspired you then there’s no time like the present – I’d love to hear from you!

Here’s to Sheroes! Happy Birthday!

Love from, Naomi xxx
